Three countries – Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway – have financed the largest quantities of American weapons for Ukraine under the PURL (Priority Needs List) initiative. This was announced by US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker during a meeting with journalists on February 10, according to European Pravda. PromPolitInform reports.
The US Ambassador to NATO named Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway as the most active buyers of American weapons for Ukraine under PURL, which allows European NATO members to purchase the most urgently needed American weapons for the Ukrainian army.
“I want to acknowledge the progress we have made on the Priority Needs List (PURL). Created by President Trump, PURL allows allies and partners to purchase American weapons to support Ukraine’s combat readiness… I want to highlight the three PURL leaders: Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway,” Whitaker said. He emphasized that PURL “strengthens Ukraine’s defense while simultaneously facilitating peace efforts by pressuring Russia to sit down and remain at the negotiating table.”
As reported, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during his visit to Ukraine, promised to find over $15 billion to purchase weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces under PURL.
Rutte also reported that 90% of the missiles currently used for Ukrainian air defense systems were received through the PURL program.
Disruptions in the supply of air defense missiles are a sensitive issue for Kyiv; in particular, Zelenskyy sharply criticized Europe in Davos for problems in this area.
