Naftogaz Group signed a grant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the amount of 85 million euros. This grant is provided by the Norwegian government and will be used to finance the purchase of imported gas to ensure a stable passage of the heating season.
This was announced by Naftogaz, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
“The grant is provided by the Norwegian government through agreements between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre and will be used to purchase additional volumes of imported gas in order to partially compensate for the loss of domestic production as a result of Russian attacks,” said Sergey Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz.
Funding is provided through the mechanisms of cooperation between the EBRD and donors and is aimed at prompt response to the urgent needs of the energy sector of Ukraine.
“This contribution will help Naftogaz respond quickly to the very real challenges facing Ukraine’s energy system this winter,” said Arvid Turkner, EBRD Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova. “By enabling the necessary gas purchases, it supports both energy security and the resilience of communities across the country. We appreciate the strong partnership with the Norwegian government and will continue to work with all our donors to provide timely assistance where it is most needed.”
As reported, in February 2026, Norway signed a new contribution of 86.4 million euros to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. The country brought the total amount of support to 163.6 million euros.
In November 2025, Naftogaz signed a grant investment agreement with the European Investment Bank for 127 million euros.
The funds provided by the European Union with the financial support of the Norwegian government will be used to purchase natural gas for the heating season 2025/2026, Naftogaz said.
