Zelensky on the results of the talks in Geneva: the parties agreed that the United States will be involved in monitoring the ceasefire in Ukraine

As a result of the trilateral talks held in Geneva on February 17-18, the issue of monitoring the ceasefire in Ukraine, which will take place with the participation of the United States, was resolved.

About this President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky told reporters on Wednesday, February 18, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

“The military understands how to monitor a ceasefire and an end to the war if there is political will. They basically agreed on almost everything there. Monitoring will be precisely with the participation of the American side,” the president said, calling it a “constructive signal.”

“All other details – where, how to monitor, technical nuances – General Gnatov will report all this to me more broadly upon his return,” the president of Ukraine added.

The Head of State also noted that the political component is all sensitive issues: the East, Zaporizhzhya NPP, etc.

“We see that there are developments, but so far the positions are different, because the negotiations were not easy. That is, in the direction of military progress I heard. In the political direction, there was a dialogue, we agreed to go further,” the head of state concluded.

Zelensky also stressed that due to the fact that the negotiating group cannot report all the details by phone, the return will be more understanding of the results of the negotiations.

“As for the content of the negotiations. Well, first of all, you know, there are two directions: military and political. Here I want to say that all three sides in the military direction were constructive. In my opinion, in principle, the military understands how to monitor the ceasefire and the end of the war,” Zelensky said.

In general, Zelensky called the negotiations in Geneva “difficult.” The Ukrainian negotiating team will carry out an extended report on the results of the meetings after returning to Kyiv.

In Geneva on February 18, two-day negotiations between Ukraine-Russia-USA, which started on February 17, ended. Delegations gathered to discuss humanitarian and security issues, in particular territorial differences.

According to Axios, the negotiations “stalled” because of the position of the Russian side. But US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff said that the meetings “led to significant progress.”

The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, called the discussions “business.”

President Zelensky said that the Russian Federation is delaying the negotiation process, which could already reach the final.
