The United States abstained during a vote in the UN General Assembly for a resolution in support of peace in Ukraine. Keith Kellogg criticized this decision.
This writes Bloomberg, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
The UN resolution called for an immediate ceasefire, reaffirmed the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and emphasized the importance of the UN Charter on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
107 states supported the document, against – 12, in particular Russia, 51 countries abstained.
What did Kellogg say?
“The UN vote on a lasting peace in Ukraine, and we abstained. Who would have thought. This is not a business deal – this is a war,” he said.
Deputy U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Tammy Bruce explained that the resolution “contains language that is likely to distract from ongoing negotiations rather than support discussion of the full range of diplomatic pathways that could pave the way for lasting peace.”
The US is still working to end the war, she said.
It is worth noting that the vote took place against the backdrop of active international discussions about possible diplomatic ways to end the war and attempts to agree on approaches to future negotiations.
