The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has begun inspections of gas stations due to a significant increase in fuel prices in early March 2026. The committee is analyzing the information provided to identify possible violations of the legislation on the protection of economic competition.

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has begun inspections of gas stations where prices have risen sharply. This was reported by the press service of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, UNN reports. The PromPolitInform portal informs.

“In recent days, the world market for oil and petroleum products has demonstrated a significant increase in quotations. Fuel prices have also increased in gas station networks in our country. The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine is carrying out control measures regarding the situation in the markets of light petroleum products in order to clarify the presence/absence of signs of violation of the legislation on the protection of economic competition in the actions of gas station operators during the price increase in early March 2026,” the message says.

It is noted that within the framework of these measures, the AMCU sent market participants a request to provide information necessary to establish the reasons for the price increase. The requirements set the shortest possible terms for providing information.

“After receiving it, the Committee will conduct an operational analysis of the provided data and, if signs of violation of the legislation on the protection of economic competition are detected, will take appropriate measures,” the AMCU added.

The agency also emphasized that prices for light petroleum products are not subject to state regulation, the Ukrainian market for light petroleum products is completely dependent on imports of petroleum products, and fluctuations in world prices also affect the cost of fuel for consumers. The increase in fuel costs is of a European nature and is observed not only in Ukraine.

We remind you that

The escalation in the Middle East has once again increased nervousness on the global oil market, and with it fueled expectations of a rise in fuel prices in importing countries. In Ukraine, this quickly affected the retail segment: some gas stations are adjusting prices more frequently, and demand is growing in some places due to fears of possible disruptions. At the same time, market participants emphasize that there is currently no physical shortage, and the main short-term risk is associated with panic and reaction to the news background.
