Ukrainian collectors captured in Budapest were deported from Hungary today

Seven citizens of Ukraine, who were detained in Budapest along with Sberbank collector cars, were expelled from Hungary on Friday, March 6.

This was reported by the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary, writes Index, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

According to the publication, the Hungarian tax identified seven citizens of Ukraine who were detained “in connection with the transportation of a batch of money and gold.” They were deported from the country.

The National Tax and Customs Service of Hungary has launched criminal proceedings on suspicion of money laundering against seven citizens of Ukraine.

It is alleged that among the detainees was a former general of the Ukrainian special services, who managed the cargo, which consisted of 40 million dollars, 35 million euros and 9 kg of gold.

The service added that during this year more than 900 million US dollars, 420 million euros and 146 kg of gold were transported through the territory of Hungary to Ukraine. Hungary is conducting an investigation in accordance with the law on criminal proceedings with the participation of the Anti-Terrorist Center.

It is alleged that the National Tax and Customs Service immediately announced the start of the procedure to the Ukrainian consular service, but did not receive a response.

As previously reported, on March 5, Hungarian authorities detained seven Ukrainians in Budapest – employees of the state-owned Sberbank, who transported funds between Austria and Ukraine. In particular, in the collection cars were 40 million dollars, 35 million euros and 9 kilograms of gold.

Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga stressed that Hungary actually took people hostage and stole money. At the same time, as of March 6, Ukrainian consuls were still not allowed to visit the captured citizens.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued a recommendation to our compatriots “in view of the abduction of seven citizens of Ukraine and the theft of assets of a state bank to refrain from traveling to Hungary, since they cannot guarantee their safety due to the arbitrary actions of the Hungarian authorities.”

The Foreign Ministry also asks, if possible, to choose transit routes that do not pass through the territory of Hungary. “We draw the attention of Ukrainian and European business to the danger of arbitrary misappropriation of assets in Hungary and recommend that they take these risks into account when doing business in the country,” the agency wrote on Facebook.
