On the night of March 15, a series of explosions rocked a number of regions of Russia and the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. According to reports from Russian officials and publications on the Internet, energy facilities, oil infrastructure, and military depots could have been hit.
In the city of Belgorod, local authorities reported damage to energy infrastructure and problems with utilities, including heating, electricity, and water.
“As a result, power outages, water supply, and heat were recorded. We will be able to assess the exact extent of the damage in daylight,” said local governor Gladkov.
According to him, a fire also broke out at one of the facilities, which was being extinguished by rescue services.
In Krasnodar Krai, explosions were heard near the city of Tikhoretsk. According to the local operational headquarters, fragments of a drone caused a fire in the territory of the Tikhoretsk oil hub, which is an important transport complex for pumping and storing oil. This facility is part of the infrastructure associated with the Russian state company Transneft, which manages the country’s main oil pipeline system. Damage to two high-voltage power lines was also reported.
Reports of explosions came from Volgograd and the neighboring city of Volzhsky. According to open sources, the sounds of explosions were heard in areas where an oil refinery and a power plant are located.
In the capital of Mordovia, Saransk, local residents also reported the operation of drones and explosions. Videos of the arrivals have spread online.
Strikes on occupied territories
Explosions also occurred in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. According to preliminary data, an ammunition depot of Russian troops was hit in the city of Dovzhansk, Luhansk region. It is reported that missiles for air defense systems were detonated.
In Simferopol, explosions occurred near the Tavria TPP, which is one of the key power plants on the peninsula, providing electricity to a significant part of the region.
Official details of the events are still being clarified, but the scale of the geography of the explosions indicates another night of large-scale attacks on the infrastructure of Russia and the occupied territories.
