With the approach of spring in Ukraine, the topic of changing the clocks traditionally returns. Due to the large number of contradictory news in the past, many are still confused about whether this practice has been canceled for good.
However, the spring transition to daylight saving time remains in effect, so Ukrainians will again have to move the hands forward and get used to the new regime. As reported by Channel 24, the Official Portal of the Verkhovna Rada tells more about this. The PromPolitInform portal reports.
What does the transition to daylight saving time mean in Ukraine?
In practice, this means that on the night of the transition to daylight saving time, Ukrainians will sleep an hour less. After all, it seems to “jump” forward. However, the main goal of such a step is to increase the duration of daylight in the evening.
Although the sun will rise later in the morning according to the clock, it will also get dark later on the street, which will give us more daylight after work or study.
It is important to remember that modern technology, in particular smartphones, computers or smartwatches, will update the time automatically if connected to the Internet. However, mechanical or regular wall clocks will have to be adjusted manually.
When to change the clocks in the spring of 2026?
At the end of March, Ukrainians will again switch their clocks to summer time. In 2026, this switch will take place on the night of Saturday, March 28, to Sunday, March 29. At exactly 03:00 am Kyiv time, the clocks will be set forward one hour. That is, the clocks will immediately read 04:00 am.
Why do people still change their clocks in Ukraine?
Many remember the news about the possible abolition of this practice. Indeed, back in 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 4201, which was supposed to leave Ukraine on a single winter time forever, without further transfers.
However, this document was never signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky. So the country continues to live according to the old rules, transferring the clocks twice a year.
