The head of EU diplomacy announced a new tranche for Ukraine
The European Union is providing Ukraine with a new tranche of 80 million euros. These are proceeds from frozen Russian assets. As reported by RBC-Ukraine, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, stated this at a press conference with the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Andriy Sybiga. The PromPolitInform portal reports.
According to Kallas, during today’s negotiations, the focus was on two points:
how to strengthen and support Ukraine;
how to increase pressure on Russia.
She added that in order to end the war, it is necessary to confront Russia, not reward it. In particular, sanctions need to be strengthened, not weakened. And Brussels has already prepared the 20th package of sanctions, thanks to which it will be possible to tighten the nets around the Russian shadow fleet even more tightly.
“Today I am pleased to announce that we are providing Ukraine with an additional 80 million euros, obtained from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets,” the EU foreign policy chief stressed.
Kallas added that Ukraine’s energy needs were also discussed today. The EU continues to mobilize international support for the supply of generators and repair equipment so that Ukraine is better protected next winter.
EU financial assistance to Ukraine
Recall that during the 4 years of the Russian Federation’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the European Union has never dared to confiscate all frozen assets in favor of Ukraine.
Instead, Brussels decided to provide Ukrainians with the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.
Recently, EU countries considered the possibility of providing Ukraine with a “reparation loan”, which would be secured at the expense of Russian assets. But this measure also did not receive sufficient support within the bloc.
