Preparing for winter: communities will be connected to 100 MW of capacity

The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated funds for the launch of cogeneration plants before the heating season.

In Ukraine, cogeneration plants with a total electrical capacity of almost 100 MW are planned to be connected to the grid. For these purposes, the government has allocated UAH 732.5 million as part of the implementation of regional sustainability plans. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Dengi.ua reports. The PromPolitInform portal informs.

Preparing for winter

According to the head of government, the key task is to put existing equipment into operation as soon as possible in order to ensure uninterrupted heat and electricity supply in winter.

“We are preparing for the next heating season. There are cogeneration plants in the regions that are not yet connected to the grid. The task for regions and communities is to put them into operation and prepare them for use in order to provide heat and electricity to hospitals, schools and other critical infrastructure facilities in the winter. For this, the government allocates the necessary funding,” Yulia Svyrydenko noted.

What is planned to be connected

These are 75 cogeneration plants that are already in communities, but are not yet connected to the networks. Their total thermal capacity is 107 MW.

The equipment was transferred, in particular, with the support of international partners. However, due to a lack of funds and technical resources, the communities were unable to complete their installation and launch on their own.

How will the funding be distributed

A part of the funds – UAH 307.7 million – will be directed directly to the installation and connection of plants in the regions:

20 facilities – in Kharkiv region;

20 – in Chernihiv region;

19 – in Khmelnytskyi region;

7 – in Lviv region;

4 – in Donetsk;

3 – in Vinnytsia;

one each – in Sumy and Ternopil regions.

Another 424.8 million UAH is provided for the construction of block-modular boiler houses. Also, part of the funding will go to the completion of projects for the decentralization of heat supply in Mykolaiv.

Deadlines

All work must be completed by October 1. By this time, local authorities and regional administrations are required to prepare project documentation, perform installation, equip sites and ensure connection of installations to networks.

It is expected that the implementation of these measures will increase the stability of the energy system and will allow for a more stable passage of the next heating season, especially for critical infrastructure facilities.
