Co-founder of the company Fire Point, which produces Flamingo missiles and drones FP-1 and FP-2, Denis Shtilerman announced plans in 2027 to put into service the Ukrainian army a new air defense system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.
He said this in an interview with Reuters, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
According to him, the new air defense system that his company wants to develop should create a cheaper alternative to the Patriot system, which, in particular, is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain due to the war in Iran.
To create a new system, they are negotiating with European companies on radars, missile guidance systems and communications, that is, those areas in which the company currently lacks expertise. Which specific countries are involved in the negotiations – the company official did not name.
He said that Fire Point plans to intercept ballistics with the new system at the end of 2027, although he called such a pace of launch an “ambitious” goal. At the same time, Shtilerman added that they plan to reduce the price of intercepting one ballistic missile to less than $1 million.
“If we manage to reduce it to less than $1 million, it will be a real breakthrough in the field of air defense,” he said.
Also, in his opinion, the new air defense system will be in significant demand among other countries, even if the interception efficiency is lower than that of Patriot.
Now, other Fire Point products – in particular drones – are already interested in the Persian Gulf countries, so the company is awaiting approval from the Ukrainian government to start exporting. The company can export up to 2,500 long-range drones each month, Stilerman said.
