On April 12, parliamentary elections were held in Hungary. According to the first published results of the election commission, the opposition party “Tisa” is in the lead. The party of the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban “Fidesz” takes 2nd place. This is reported by Suspilne.Noviny, according to the website of the election commission of Hungary. The party leader is Laszlo Torotskai, known for his anti-Ukrainian statements. For example, in 2022 he hinted at the seizure of the Transcarpathian region. After processing 29% of the ballots, the party receives more than 4% of the votes. To enter the Hungarian parliament, a candidate needs 5% of the vote.
A constitutional majority in the Hungarian parliament requires 133 of the 199 seats.
Péter Magyar addressed his supporters after the polls closed. He urged his supporters to “remain calm.”
“We have seen the latest opinion polls, and based on the turnout figures and the information we have received, we are optimistic. The majority of Hungarians have understood the importance of these elections. This has become and will continue to be a celebration of democracy,” Magyar said.
He thanked the volunteer election observers and said that “this is necessary” for modern Hungary.
“Since, unfortunately, Hungary is not a functioning state at the moment, this was necessary. Even so, we have received thousands of reports of election fraud. In each case, we will take the necessary measures, and if necessary, we will file a complaint,” said Peter Magyar.
Viktor Orbán did not personally comment on the first election results. Peter Magyar said that Orbán congratulated him on his victory in the elections.
The Fidesz party said that they had allegedly received more than 1,500 reports of “electoral fraud related to the Tisza party.”
The party did not comment on the election results themselves.
