Industrial inflation is accelerating: what is the reason

In March 2026, producer prices in Ukraine went up again. According to the State Statistics Service, they increased by 2.3% per month, and in annual terms the growth reached 36.6%. This means that it is becoming more expensive for enterprises to produce products, and this pressure may gradually pass on to final prices for consumers. This was reported by the State Statistics Service, Kommersant Ukrainian reports. The PromPolitInform portal informs.

The main driver of growth was the extractive industry. In March, prices in this sector rose by 4.8% compared to February. At the same time, in annual terms, the growth rates here look much more modest – about 3.7%. This indicates short-term fluctuations associated with the costs of extraction and logistics.

In contrast, the greatest pressure in annual terms is formed by energy. In the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector, prices increased by 75.8% per year. It is this component that significantly affects the entire economy, since energy carriers are basic costs for most industries.

The overall picture shows that industrial inflation remains high and is ahead of the growth rate of consumer prices.

Against this background, data for February showed only a moderate increase in consumer prices – by 1% per month.

Recall that inflation in Ukraine in March 2026 accelerated to 7.9% in annual terms, and in monthly terms – prices increased by 1.7%.

The actual indicators of both general and core inflation exceeded the regulator’s forecast published in the January inflation report.
