Mobile operator “Kyivstar” announced a new stage of network modernization, which involves the gradual shutdown of 3G technology in a number of regions of Ukraine, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
The company transfers subscribers to the more modern 4G/LTE standard in order to improve the quality of mobile Internet, data transfer speed and communication stability.
Technological changes will begin to be implemented from May 26 after 00:00 as part of a planned infrastructure update.
Kyivstar explains that network modernization should improve the quality of mobile Internet, data transfer speed and communication stability. At the same time, in some settlements, outdated 3G technology will gradually be turned off.
From May 29, the deployment of 4G will cover a number of regions of Ukraine. In particular, the changes will affect part of the settlements: Ivano-Frankivsk region, as well as Rivne, Nikolaev and Kharkov regions.
Updating the infrastructure will affect residents of the cities of Varash, Volodymyrets, Nikolaev, Ochakov, Koblevo, Kharkov, Pesochin, Lyubotin and Dergachi.
The company stressed that the transition will take place gradually, not simultaneously. Because of this, infrastructure updates can take some time. Most modern smartphones already automatically support 4G/LTE.
At the same time, owners of older phone models may need to manually configure the network. To do this, select 4G or LTE mode in the device settings.
On Apple smartphones, the network is usually set up automatically when mobile data is turned on.
Separately, the operator drew attention to SIM-cards, which provide access to communication services. If the SIM card does not support 4G, it can be replaced for free at service centers with the preservation of the phone number.
A similar transition to modern mobile communication standards was previously announced by other Ukrainian operators, in particular Vodafone Ukraine and Lifecell.
Updating networks is part of a long-term strategy for the development of telecom infrastructure in Ukraine. In the future, mobile operators are also preparing to launch 5G technology, testing of which is already ongoing.
This will significantly increase the data transfer rate for all categories of users.
