Ukraine expands Affordable Medicines program. 51 more drugs to be added to the list

The Cabinet of Ministers is expanding the Affordable Medicines program. From July 2026, the updated list will include 51 more international non-proprietary names of medicines. As Delo.ua writes, this was reported by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. The PromPolitInform portal reports.

The Affordable Medicines program will be expanded

New drugs are intended for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, these are drugs for controlling blood pressure, treating heart failure and heart rhythm disorders, preventing thrombosis, lowering cholesterol levels, as well as therapy for patients who have had a myocardial infarction or are at increased risk of stroke.

The Affordable Medicines program allows Ukrainians to receive necessary medicines free of charge or with a partial co-payment based on an electronic prescription. To do this, the patient needs to see a doctor, receive an electronic prescription and present it at a pharmacy participating in the program.

In 2026, the program’s funding was increased to UAH 8.7 billion. Since its launch, more than 6 million Ukrainians have taken advantage of the opportunity to receive medicines with state support. In the first months of 2026 alone, almost 2 million patients used the program.

The government also emphasizes that the new rules will contribute to the development of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical industry. If a domestic manufacturer offers a drug that meets the established requirements and has the lowest price, it will have an advantage when included in the program. It is expected that this will help strengthen domestic production of medicines and increase the stability of providing patients with necessary medicines.

Structure of the updated register “Affordable Medicines”

Currently, the full list of medicines subject to reimbursement consists of 748 items. Among them:

621 medicines in various directions;

59 insulin preparations;

32 combination preparations;

36 names of test strips for glucometers.

Recall that earlier the State Medical Service issued the first licenses for the sale of medicines to the Ukrnafta and OKKO gas station networks. The corresponding applications were also submitted by the BRSM-Nafta and UPG networks. The sale of medicines at gas stations became possible subject to compliance with licensing requirements for staffing and equipment of premises.
