Starting today, all gas stations in Ukraine will be using the new E10 fuel standard. What changes to expect

Starting July 1, all gas stations in Ukraine will be using the new E10 gasoline standard. It involves adding up to 10% bioethanol to the fuel and is part of the adaptation of the Ukrainian fuel market to European standards. This was stated in a comment to RBC-Ukraine by Serhiy Kuyun, director of the A-95 Consulting Group, PromPolitInform reports.

According to him, the transition to the new standard should not significantly affect consumers – the fuel will remain with the already familiar markings, in particular A-95, only its composition will change.

New gasoline composition – from now on, the fuel will contain up to 10% bioethanol in accordance with European standards. Prices – a slight increase in cost is possible – by about 50–70 kopecks per liter, which is less than 1% of the cost of fuel. Safety for cars – E10 gasoline is suitable for most cars and does not pose a threat to engines. Fuel market – unification with EU standards can simplify supply and reduce the cost of producing individual batches of gasoline.

According to Kuyun, the addition of bioethanol does affect the cost, but the changes will be minimal. The purchase price may increase by about $15–25 per ton, which corresponds to about 50–70 kopecks per liter.

“This is such a small increase that the consumer simply will not feel it. No one will raise prices by 50–70 kopecks,” Kuyun noted.

The new standard is not considered a risk for vehicles. According to experts, gasoline with a content of up to 10% bioethanol is compatible with most modern and older cars.

Some older models may require minor technical adjustments to the fuel system, but no serious problems are expected.

The transition to E10 brings the Ukrainian market closer to the European system. Suppliers will no longer need to form separate batches of gasoline for Ukraine, since the standard will become similar to the European one. According to Kuyun, in the long term this may even reduce companies’ costs and make the market more stable.

Regarding prices, the expert predicts a possible decrease in the cost of gasoline in the future. He noted that currently gasoline remains more expensive than normal market conditions, while diesel is gradually becoming cheaper. In the future, gasoline prices may also decrease.
