Ukraine is moving to a new stage in the development of air defense. Laser systems are already being tested, and interceptor drones are demonstrating increasingly higher efficiency.

This was announced by Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov during the Brave1 Advantage Defense Tech event, RBC-Ukraine reports. The PromPolitInform portal informs.

According to Fedorov, laser air defense systems are already being tested in Ukraine.

“We are already testing the laser and there are already certain results. We are not communicating much yet, but the direction is actively moving,” he said.

What results have interceptor drones already shown?

The minister reported that in May alone, Ukrainian interceptor drones shot down almost 7,000 Russian Shahed and Gerber drones.

In addition, during one of the last massive attacks, about 75% of attack drones were destroyed by interceptor drones.

Fedorov also noted that during the last attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down 95% of enemy drones. According to him, by the end of the year, the Ministry of Defense plans to achieve the same level of drone interception efficiency throughout Ukraine.

New missiles and large-scale production

According to the Minister of Defense, the department has already announced a tender for the purchase of another 150,000 drones, some of which belong to the Middle Strike class.

A separate priority remains the creation of cheap cruise missiles using artificial intelligence technologies.

“These may sound like futuristic projects, but in a year this will no longer be news. We will work on it,” Fedorov emphasized.

He also reported that currently in Ukraine, about ten companies are testing the developments of cheap missiles to intercept drones.

In parallel, work is underway on systems capable of countering ballistic missiles and guided aerial bombs.

At the same time, Ukraine is gradually expanding the export capabilities of its own defense industry.

One of the key instruments has been agreements in the Drone Deal format, which provide not only for the supply of weapons, but also for the transfer of technologies, joint defense developments and the attraction of international financing.

About 20 countries have already expressed interest in such cooperation.
