Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga held important negotiations with his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski in Warsaw. During the meeting, the Ukrainian side proposed a specific package of anti-crisis steps designed to significantly reduce tension in relations between the states and open the way to deepening strategic partnership. This, Patriot of Donbas informs, is stated in the official statement of the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on the social network X. The PromPolitInform portal reports.
Seeking understanding and a common challenge
Andriy Sybiga emphasized that Kyiv is absolutely not interested in creating artificial tension with Warsaw and has always deeply appreciated the unprecedented support that the Polish people provided to Ukraine in 2022 after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
“Poland is vital for Ukraine, just as Ukraine is for Poland. We have a common enemy — Russia — and a common challenge: Russian aggression,” the minister emphasized.
He also added that both capitals have enough political will and historical wisdom to “put an end to the applause in Moscow,” which sincerely rejoices at any disputes between its closest neighbors. According to the government official, history simply will not forgive the countries if this opportunity for reconciliation is lost.
Anti-crisis plan and resolution of historical issues
The plan to overcome the crisis presented by Sybiga contains several practical and consistent steps. In particular, it is planned to:
Initiate regular bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Poland.
Organize a special meeting of experts-historians of World War II who previously participated in the Polish-Ukrainian Congress of Historians in May.
An official appeal to the religious leaders of both states to promote spiritual reconciliation.
Separately, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted significant progress in resolving sensitive historical issues that had been achieved over the past year and a half. Szybiga officially assured that the exhumation process has now been unblocked, the work of the Congress of Historians has been fully resumed, and Ukraine will continue to issue permits for search and exhumation operations without hindrance.
In addition, the minister clearly explained Kyiv’s position on internal military traditions: the choice by the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the name of the unit in honor of the heroes of the UPA is determined by the purely modern logic of repelling the Russian aggressor and does not carry any anti-Polish intentions.
Economy, border and statement on the order of Volodymyr Zelensky
In addition to the historical bloc, the diplomats discussed in detail the future of military-technical cooperation and agreed on common positions on the eve of the upcoming NATO summit, which is to be held in Ankara. During the negotiations, the parties paid considerable attention to the real sector of the economy: interaction between Ukrainian and Polish companies, launching joint projects for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, accelerating customs procedures for business and citizens, as well as actively developing the infrastructure of border checkpoints.
An important political signal was also sounded by the Polish diplomat. The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Radosław Sikorski, has publicly admitted that the recent decision to try to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle was a gross mistake. According to Sikorski, such steps are absolutely unacceptable, as they openly humiliated the leader of a state that is currently waging a difficult full-scale war for its independence and the security of all of Europe.
