From August 1, the tariff for electricity transmission will increase: how and for whom will prices change

The tariff for electricity transmission will increase by a quarter from August 1. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the decision of the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Utilities of Ukraine, which was broadcast online. The PromPolitInform portal informs.

How much will the tariff increase

The tariff for electricity transmission services from August 1, 2026 will be 928.45 hryvnia per megawatt-hour excluding VAT. This is 25 percent more than it currently is.

A separate, lower tariff has been provided for enterprises of “green” electrometallurgy – 563.26 hryvnia per megawatt-hour.

What is included in the new tariff

A separate component for the implementation of special obligations has been allocated in the tariff structure. It concerns an increase in the share of electricity production from alternative sources and will amount to 365.19 hryvnias per megawatt-hour.

The total volume of electricity transmission that was included in the calculation is 89.55 million megawatt-hours.

At the same time, the decision of the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Power Generation of Ukraine does not mean an automatic increase in the price of electricity for the population. This is the tariff for electricity transmission through Ukrenergo’s main networks, which is paid by suppliers and large consumers. For household consumers, the current electricity tariff remains unchanged.

Why the tariff was revised

The National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Power Generation of Ukraine explained the revision by several reasons:

the growth of exchange rates, which increases the financial burden on Ukrenergo, in particular due to settlements with “green” generation in euros;

a decrease in the volume of electricity transmission;

the liberalization of price caps, which increased the costs of purchasing electricity for the company’s needs.

Back on July 7, the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Utilities of Ukraine had already approved the Ukrenergo tariff in the same amount, but for final approval it was necessary to eliminate the legislative conflict.

The problem was in the wording of the law on market coupling No. 4834-IX. The document prohibited including special obligations in the Ukrenergo tariff, and this norm was supposed to come into effect only from January 1, 2030.

Due to a technical error by the secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada Energy Committee, this detail was not included in the final provisions of the law.

Later, the Verkhovna Rada adopted amendments to the legislation – draft law No. 14067, which was signed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

Meanwhile, tariffs are changing in other areas in Ukraine. Recall that from August 1, 2026, the water tariff will also increase in Lviv.

Meanwhile, the IMF has put forward a number of strict requirements for Ukraine as part of the review of the EFF program.

We will remind, the Fund proposed to gradually increase tariffs for gas and electricity starting next year, and also insists on introducing VAT for some individual entrepreneurs and canceling tax breaks for parcels.
