As a result of Russia's night missile strike on the capital on August 20, 12 people died. Another 34 people were injured, and residential and infrastructure facilities were damaged across the city.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Юлія Капітонова) citing the Telegram channel of Vitali Klitschko, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that one of the wounded died in a medical facility. The highest number of casualties, seven people, was recorded in the Solomianskyi district of the city.
Consequences of destruction in the capital’s districts
In the Solomianskyi district, debris hit a 9-story residential building, causing a fire. Four neighboring residential buildings, a school, and a children’s hospital building were also damaged, with fire affecting parked cars.
In the Darnytskyi district, damage to non-residential and warehouse premises was discovered. A similar situation is observed in the Sviatoshynskyi district, where a fire also broke out on the territory of warehouses.
Clearing the aftermath and mourning events
Cleanup operations and efforts to mitigate the consequences of the shelling are currently underway. Due to the night attack on the city, Ukrzaliznytsia was forced to adjust train schedules.
Kyiv city authorities have declared August 21 a day of mourning for the victims. During this period, a ban on any entertainment events will be in effect within the city.
