The Russian Federation retains the capacity to wage war over an extended period due to oil revenues and assistance from certain countries in circumventing sanctions. International restrictions are making life increasingly uncomfortable for Russians, but they have failed to stop internal economic activity. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Diplomat Sergiy Kyslytsya noted that Russia remains capable of desperately continuing the war, despite significant human casualties and domestic economic troubles. According to him, the imposed restrictions create discomfort for the aggressor’s population, but internal economic activity has not ceased.
Raw material exports to foreign markets continue to generate substantial profits for the aggressor. More than half of Russian oil is purchased by a limited number of states, with oil trade with a single country exceeding 40 billion dollars last year alone.
Bypassing international restrictions and historical parallels
Furthermore, certain countries are helping Moscow evade sanctions. Trade turnover between several states and developed world economies has surged by 1,000 percent in recent years, pointing to the re-export of equipment and raw materials to Russia rather than a sudden spike in domestic consumption.
The diplomat also drew parallels between the current regime in Russia and the Soviet Union, where building up armaments was always prioritised over the daily needs of ordinary people. He recalled that while the USSR suffered from shortages of basic household goods, resources were constantly allocated to launch military satellites into space.
At the same time, Ukraine is actively collaborating with foreign intelligence agencies, diplomatic channels, and special services to prepare new international sanction packages aimed at severely constraining the military capabilities of the aggressor state.
