The government will allocate $420 million to curb inflation caused by supply chain issues in russia
The government of Kyrgyzstan has appealed to China for help in securing fuel supplies due to a regional resource deficit. Previously, the cabinet allocated $11.5 million to subsidize retail fuel prices. This was reported by Glavcom citing Vitalii Shapran, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The energy situation in the country has deteriorated to the point that assistance from neighboring Kazakhstan proved insufficient. Consequently, Bishkek was forced to seek new import channels, focusing on cooperation with China.
To stabilize the domestic market, the state transferred $11.5 million to oil traders on August 20. These funds are intended to artificially maintain fuel prices and prevent sharp cost increases for consumers.
Combating inflation
The scale of economic challenges requires significantly higher expenditures. The government plans to spend nearly $420 million soon to counter inflation, which has accelerated significantly in recent months.
Experts attribute this economic pressure to the critical state of the fuel industry in russia and constant disruptions in the agricultural supply chain. Dependency on russian supplies has proven detrimental to regional stability.
Diversifying energy supply
Kyrgyzstan has been advised to overhaul its energy strategy by following the approach adopted by the PRC. China is actively developing solar power generation and working to diversify import sources to minimize risks associated with the instability of individual suppliers.
Analysts emphasize that relying on russia as a reliable partner is no longer viable. To maintain economic security, the country must diversify its trade partners, as russian influence in Central Asia continues to wane rapidly.
