Modern Russian weaponry has significantly higher destructive power than at the beginning of the war
Rescuers state that the two-wall rule no longer guarantees safety during enemy strikes. The power of modern Russian ammunition allows it to penetrate internal building partitions. This was reported by Glavcom citing Bihus Info, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Spokesperson for the Main Directorate of the SES in Kyiv, Pavlo Petrov, noted that the nature of airborne threats has changed significantly during the full-scale invasion. While choosing a safe spot between two walls could protect against minor shrapnel in the early stages of the war, such a method is now dangerous.
According to the SES representative, two walls can only minimize the impact of secondary debris during nearby strikes. However, this method does not provide a sufficient level of protection for the civilian population in the event of a direct hit or a high-power explosion.
Impact of design and ammunition
The level of shelter reliability directly depends on building materials and the structural features of residential buildings. Modern weaponry used by russia is capable of easily penetrating interior walls and apartment partitions, causing significant damage.
The agency emphasizes that staying in a bathroom or hallway is not a substitute for using specialized bomb shelters. Citizens are advised to prioritize officially designated shelters capable of withstanding severe loads.
Situation in the capital
Kyiv has been under constant attack by enemy drones and missiles for four consecutive days. The latest shelling caused a massive fire covering 3,000 square meters in a non-residential building and damaged the facade of a catering establishment.
Given the risks, the US Embassy in Ukraine has also updated its recommendations for American citizens. Diplomats urged people to monitor the security situation and be prepared for rapid changes amid the constant threat of strikes.
