Assets in spot Bitcoin ETFs increased by 31%, while trading turnover rose by nearly half
In August 2026, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization grew by 17.6% compared to the previous month, reaching 2.70 trillion dollars. This was driven by a significant capital inflow through exchange-traded funds. This was reported by Minfin, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Unlike July’s figures, market growth in August was driven by actual capital inflows rather than just a shortage of assets for sale. Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted 3.52 billion dollars, marking the best result since October 2025, whereas in July, the net inflow was only 172 million dollars.
Bitcoin-ETF Performance
From August 17 to 27, spot Bitcoin funds demonstrated positive inflows for nine consecutive trading days. This significantly reduced the year-to-date net capital outflow from 5.29 billion to 1.77 billion dollars. Monthly trading turnover for these instruments grew by 49%, reaching 58.63 billion dollars.
Ethereum and Market Structure
Spot Ethereum ETFs also showed high activity, attracting 824 million dollars in the week leading up to August 28, a record for the current year. The cryptocurrency market capitalization excluding Bitcoin has returned to approximately 1 trillion dollars.
Despite this, the Altcoin Season Index currently stands at 37 points, which is significantly below the threshold of 75 points, meaning no signs of large-scale capital rotation have been confirmed yet. Bitcoin’s share of total market capitalization remains stable at 59.7%.
