Inflation in Ukraine accelerates to 8.1% in August 2026

Fuel and utility services showed significant price increases over the month

In August 2026, consumer prices in Ukraine increased by 0.1% compared to July, while annual inflation accelerated to 8.1%. Since the beginning of the year, consumer goods and services have risen in price by 6.1%. This was reported by Glavcom citing the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

In annual terms, consumer inflation demonstrated growth for the second consecutive month, reaching 8.1% in August compared to 7.7% in July and 7.2% in June. Meanwhile, monthly price growth rates remained moderate: June recorded a 0.1% decrease, July saw a 0.3% increase, and August registered 0.1%. Core inflation for the final summer month stood at 0.5%, while the annual figure also settled at 8.1%.

Food price dynamics

Overall, the cost of food products and non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 1.3% in August. Seasonal fruit and vegetable categories experienced the sharpest declines, with vegetables dropping by 18.3% and fruits becoming 12% cheaper. Additionally, butter recorded a 0.6% decrease, while clothing and footwear overall dropped in price by 2.5%, specifically footwear by 3.1%.

At the same time, certain grocery items displayed an upward trend and became more expensive. Specifically, eggs increased in price by 4%, sugar by 2.2%, and fish along with fish products by 1.6%. Meat products, cheeses, bread, pasta, and fermented dairy goods grew in price ranging from 0.6% to 4%.

Utility tariffs and transport

The category of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels showed a monthly price increase of 1.3%. The main driver was the rise in water supply tariffs by 16.8% and sewage services by 16.7%. The transport sector grew by 4.4% in August due to an 8.1% surge in fuel and lubricant prices alongside a 6.6% increase in road passenger transport fares.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products also added 1.5% in price over the month. Tobacco products separately increased in cost by 2.1%.
