China, Poland, and Germany remain the largest trade partners
In January-August 2026, total Ukrainian trade turnover reached $92.9 billion. Goods imports hit $66.3 billion, while exports stood at $26.6 billion. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
Taxable imports accounted for 71% of all imported goods, amounting to $46.8 billion in monetary terms. The fiscal burden per kilogram of taxable goods reached $0.60 during the reporting period.
Key Trade Flow Geography
China emerged as the primary source of imports for Ukraine in the first eight months of the year, with a total value exceeding $19.6 billion. Significant import volumes were also provided by Poland and Germany, reaching $6.3 billion and $4.4 billion respectively.
The structure of Ukrainian exports is similarly dominated by European nations and Turkey. Exports to Poland totalled over $3.2 billion, to Turkey nearly $2.1 billion, and to Germany over $1.7 billion.
Import Composition and Budget Revenue
Nearly three-quarters of all imports fall into three main categories. Machinery, equipment, and transport vehicles represent the largest share, valued at over $29.9 billion.
Fuel and energy products rank second, with a value of $9.5 billion. Chemical industry products round out the top three categories with $9 billion in imports.
These sectors provided the bulk of customs-related budget revenue. Specifically, fuel imports generated 197 billion hryvnias, machinery and equipment contributed 168.1 billion hryvnias, and chemical products added 74.9 billion hryvnias to the state treasury.
Major Ukrainian Export Categories
Ukrainian exports continue to rely heavily on the agricultural and food sector. Food products accounted for the largest share of foreign sales, reaching $15.4 billion.
Metals and metal products ranked second in export volume, with a total value of nearly $2.7 billion. Machinery, equipment, and vehicles took third place with nearly $2.4 billion in export revenue.
Additionally, the state budget received 1.1 billion hryvnias from export duties collected during customs clearance of specific categories of exported goods.
