In some regions, stocks of certain medications in pharmacies may run out within 2-3 weeks
The Pharmacy Professional Association of Ukraine has reported delays in the supply of medical products caused by the destruction of infrastructure due to Russian shelling. Increased demand has led to rapidly dwindling stocks of certain medicines in pharmacy chains. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Damage to critical and logistics infrastructure from enemy strikes has created obstacles to the stable transportation of medications. According to industry representatives, distributors currently cannot guarantee clear timelines for the resumption of supplies, which directly affects the assortment in pharmacies.
Coordination of the pharmaceutical sector
Experts emphasize that pharmacies cannot solve the shortage problem on their own, as they depend on manufacturers and suppliers. Negotiations with the Ministry of Health and the relevant Verkhovna Rada committee have begun to rectify the situation.
The association’s proposals include simplifying import procedures and implementing parallel import mechanisms. There is also consideration of providing concessional lending to pharmacy chains and creating points of sale in secure locations, such as underpasses or the metro.
Recommendations for patients
The professional community calls on the public to refrain from panic buying, which creates artificial pressure on logistics. At the same time, citizens with chronic illnesses are advised to maintain a 2-3 month supply of medication in accordance with their doctors’ recommendations.
The pharmacy sector continues to operate as usual under constant monitoring. Recall that on September 3, a warehouse complex of the pharmaceutical company Teva was damaged as a result of a Russian shelling attack.
