Kyiv delivers arms priority list as Russia escalates ballistic missile and drone attacks
Ukrainian Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara met with US Senators Thom Tillis, John Curtis, and Alan Armstrong, presenting a list of Ukraine's defence requirements, with a particular focus on air defence capabilities. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
During official talks, the Ukrainian delegation and members of the United States Senate discussed the battlefield situation, key security threats posed by the aggressor state, and ongoing comprehensive support for the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
The head of the defence ministry expressed gratitude to the United States for delivering critical weaponry through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) and JUMPSTART mechanisms.
Threats from missile strikes and export security
“US support helps save Ukrainian lives and strengthens the Defence Forces,” Khmara noted.
The minister briefed the American delegation that Russian forces are intensifying strikes against civilian infrastructure, ramping up the production of ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, and targeting commercial vessels maintaining Ukraine’s grain corridor.
The Minister of Defence stressed that Russia can only be stopped through strength, underscoring the necessity for allies to continuously provide Ukraine with the means to protect civilians and dismantle the Russian military capability.
Delivery of requirements list and sharing combat expertise
To effectively counter Russian aggression, the Ukrainian side handed over a concrete list of urgent military requirements, placing special emphasis on air defence systems.
Beyond requests for military assistance, the meeting covered how Ukraine’s battlefield experience could bolster the armed forces of the United States and other allies. Ministry officials presented initiatives and projects designed to help partners adapt to the demands of modern warfare.
