Belgium allocated €1 billion in military aid to Ukraine in 2026
Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara held talks with Minister of Defence of Belgium Theo Francken, during which the parties outlined defence priorities until the end of 2026. The officials also discussed scaling up future military assistance. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The heads of the defence ministries of both countries coordinated steps to secure resources for the Ukrainian military in the coming months and outlined plans to enhance security support for the next year.
The Ukrainian side thanked Brussels for providing €1 billion in defence assistance throughout 2026. These allocated financial and material resources are already being directed to meet the operational needs of the Defence Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield.
Drone production and industrial initiatives
The development of joint defence industrial projects was a key topic of the discussions. The sides explored opportunities to expand the production and supply of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Ministry of Defence noted that Kyiv supports all available mechanisms that simultaneously strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities and expand the industrial capacity of allied nations.
F-16 fighter jet maintenance
Particular focus was placed on the fighter jet coalition. In particular, the sides highlighted Belgium’s significant contribution to the repair, maintenance, and regular supply of spare parts for Western F-16 aircraft.
Furthermore, Ukraine anticipates future deliveries of additional ammunition for these fighter jets, which is vital for effectively intercepting enemy jet-powered drones.
