Dmitry Peskov confirmed a change in strike strategy, calling it a response to Kyiv's actions
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian army has begun launching chaotic strikes across the territory of Ukraine. Moscow has openly admitted its intent to target civilian infrastructure in retaliation for economic pressure. This was reported by Glavcom, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
In his statement, the Kremlin representative attempted to justify the actions of the occupation forces by citing an escalation allegedly provoked by Ukraine. According to him, the Russian side had refrained from such methods of warfare for a long time, but has now changed its approach, referencing previously voiced threats from the Russian leadership regarding damage to Ukrainian economic sectors.
Moscow’s Shift in Rhetoric and Strategy
Analysts link these remarks to the position of Vladimir Putin, who on August 22 explicitly threatened countermeasures against Ukraine’s attempts to influence the economy of the Russian Federation. At that time, the dictator accused Kyiv of trying to cause losses to Russian marketplaces, subsequently declaring plans for strikes against the most sensitive sectors of the Ukrainian economy.
In practice, Russia is attempting to justify strikes on logistics hubs and the energy system by claiming they are used for transporting military cargo from Europe. Specifically, railway infrastructure in the western regions of the country is being targeted, which significantly affects civilian transportation.
Consequences of the September 13 Night Attack
The scale of the aggressor’s new methods was confirmed by the night attack on September 13, during which the occupiers launched 453 drones of various types. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully neutralized 405 enemy units and destroyed four S8000 “Banderol” missiles; however, impacts were recorded at 13 locations and debris fell in seven other areas.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, residential buildings were damaged as a result of the attack, with broken windows and damaged balconies reported. Simultaneously, in the Khmelnytskyi region, a fire broke out at a local industrial enterprise due to falling drone debris, as reported by local authorities.
