Before his resignation, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko signed a notice of suspicion against Semen Kryvonos, the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU). This was reported by BLIK, according to the PromPolitInform portal.
According to Kravchenko, Kryvonos is suspected, among other things, of forging official documents to obtain an undue advantage of an especially large scale. The Prosecutor General also announced a notice of suspicion against an individual close to Oleksandr Klymenko, the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
What Ruslan Kravchenko said
According to Kravchenko, this individual is accused of influencing High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) judges, offering an undue advantage, and facilitating evasion of mobilization.
Important! Kravchenko also accused representatives of NABU and SAPO of allegedly copying and stealing case files concerning the leadership and staff of anti-corruption agencies during searches.
He claims that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously politically restrained the adoption of relevant decisions, while representatives of NABU and SAPO allegedly offered him guarantees of immunity in exchange for dropping the suspicions.
NABU’s reaction to Kravchenko’s statement
NABU described these allegations as a continuation of a systemic attack on independent anti-corruption agencies. The Bureau stated that Kryvonos had not been formally served with a notice of suspicion and that the NABU had not seized the criminal proceedings Kravchenko had mentioned.
They also denied any offers or demands regarding “immunity guarantees.”
Separately, Kravchenko stated that he had submitted his resignation following a meeting with Zelenskyy, though he admitted no wrongdoing and did not consider his decision the result of a deal. He called on NABU Director Semen Kryvonos and SAPO Head Oleksandr Klymenko to step down as well.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s reaction to the statement
For his part, Zelenskyy stated that Kravchenko should be dismissed from his post and urged the Verkhovna Rada to support this decision without delay.
“There is only one path for this Prosecutor General: dismissal. That is exactly what I told him. Ukraine has seen all the reasons. If he considers this political pressure, let him call it that. I ask parliamentarians to support this dismissal immediately,” he wrote.
Reports also circulated that Ruslan Kravchenko had crossed the border at 2:38 a.m. in an official vehicle. He later confirmed this himself, stating that he was on an official trip abroad.
“A series of meetings is planned during the trip, in the course of which I intend to inform international partners about the actual state of affairs within the anti-corruption agency system, signs of the concentration of uncontrolled influence by them, and the risks such practices pose to state sovereignty and the rule of law,” he wrote. Meanwhile, the Office of the President stated that the Prosecutor General had “lost his mind.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also issued a decree removing Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General.
