US Prepares Final Vote on New Sanctions Against Russia

The House of Representatives approved the bill review procedure

The United States House of Representatives has moved closer to reviewing a legislative initiative on restrictive measures against russia and Iran. The final vote on the document is scheduled for 16 September following the completion of procedural debates. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Анастасія Никончук) citing Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The House Rules Committee approved the document review procedure by a vote of seven to three on 14 September. Procedural debates are scheduled to begin on 15 September, with a vote on the consideration rules expected approximately at 20.30 Kyiv time.

Energy Tariffs

The document provides the US President with the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on major buyers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India. In addition, the initiative targets Russian oligarchs, officials, military personnel, and their family members.

Sanctions Against the Shadow Fleet

The bill also contains provisions regarding restrictions against financial institutions, energy projects, and vessels associated with the shadow fleet. In August, the US Senate supported this initiative, casting 86 votes in favor and 11 against.

Senate Position

If the House of Representatives also approves the document, it will be forwarded for signing to US President Donald Trump. Previously, the United States introduced new sanctions against the Russian VTB Bank as part of the pressure campaign against Iran.

Actions by the US Treasury

The US Department of the Treasury accused the financial organization of facilitating the evasion of restrictions against Tehran. The agency stated that it will continue to identify companies and structures providing financial, technological, or other substantial support to the Iranian regime.
