Canada allocates $350 million for air defence missiles and $23 million for Ukrainian security
A B2B event for Ukrainian and Canadian defence companies under National Defence Canada took place in Calgary. Representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine attended the meeting during a visit by the Ukrainian delegation led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Deputy Minister of Defence Hanna Hvozdiar represented the Ukrainian side during the talks. Deputy Minister of National Defence of Canada Christyna Fox, Commander of the Canadian Joint Operations Command Lieutenant-General Darcy Molstad, and Director General of Defence Industrial Strategy Ravi S. K. Singh also joined the discussion.
The primary goal of the event was to establish direct contacts between industrial enterprises, launch joint ventures, and foster technological cooperation. The partnership aims to integrate Ukrainian technical solutions into allied supply chains and scale up manufacturing capacities.
New Assistance Package and Support Totals
During the event, the Canadian side announced additional funding for Ukraine. Specifically, $350 million will be allocated for air defence interceptor missiles under the JUMPSTART initiative, and $23 million will go toward security enhancement measures.
Total Canadian assistance to Ukraine since 2022 has exceeded $26 billion. Beyond direct financial support, both nations are focusing on establishing long-term joint industrial defence projects.
Industrial Cooperation Potential
Ukraine’s defence industrial base currently encompasses over 900 companies. A key advantage of Ukrainian manufacturing is the rapid cycle of developing, testing, and deploying innovations tailored directly to battlefield requirements.
Canada’s defence sector holds strong expertise in aerospace, robotics, sensor technology, artificial intelligence, communications, and critical minerals. Combining these technologies with Ukraine’s real-world combat experience is set to enhance the defence capabilities of both nations.
“We aim for more joint ventures, technological partnerships, and Canadian companies working alongside Ukrainian ones. More Ukrainian battlefield-proven solutions integrated into allied supply chains,” stated Hanna Hvozdiar.
