The fund plans to attract up to $1 billion in third-party investments for new projects
The American-Ukrainian Reconstruction Fund (URIF) has approved an investment package worth more than $60 million. The funds will be directed towards the development of energy projects, the extraction of critical minerals, and the implementation of dual-use technologies. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
The implementation of these initiatives is expected to act as a catalyst for attracting additional funding, which could reach $1 billion from third-party investors. The financial resources will be used to strengthen the resilience of the power grid, create new raw material supply chains, and increase industrial capacity in the strategic sectors of both nations.
Investments in natural resources and generation
As part of a partnership with BGV Group Management, a platform is being created to fund mining projects. It will focus on the exploration and extraction of strategically important resources, specifically uranium, beryllium, zirconium, and rare earth elements, while engaging specialists from the U.S. and Ukraine.
In parallel, the Fund has supported a program for the development of distributed generation, which involves building a series of energy hubs in local communities. These facilities are designed to ensure stable heating and power supply in settlements where infrastructure has been significantly damaged by hostilities.
Stabilizing the power grid
In cooperation with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), funding has been provided to DTEK for the creation of energy storage systems. Six facilities with a total capacity of 200 MW / 400 MWh are already operational, providing backup power for approximately 600,000 households for two hours.
As noted by Deputy Minister of Economy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Yehor Perelyhin, the decisions taken are aimed at diversifying supplies and creating conditions for long-term cooperation. According to him, the use of equity instruments in current projects marks a new stage in economic relations between Ukraine and the U.S.
The launch of this investment package took place one year after the Fund itself was created with an initial capital of $150 million. Previously, in March of this year, the organization made its first investment in the domestic tech company Sine Engineering, which operates in the field of dual-use technologies.
