Initial work has begun on a new domestic communications technology project
Ukraine has taken initial practical steps towards building its own satellite system to serve as an alternative to Starlink. Development is already underway and has yielded its first results. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Юлія Капітонова), according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Domestic specialists have commenced work on a satellite communications project. Initial progress has been made, though technical specifications and deployment timelines remain undisclosed.
The project aims to establish a national alternative to foreign systems, securing reliable communication channels for military and critical infrastructure. The development process is currently in its early stages.
Military Use of Civilian Technologies
Alongside its domestic developments, Ukraine is advocating for the removal of restrictions on existing satellite networks. Specifically, this involves using civilian satellite systems for military operations and targets inside enemy territory.
This stance is driven by Russia’s ongoing access to technology from foreign partners, including China. Intelligence indicates that relevant technologies could be transferred to the adversary around the turn of the year.
Technological Countermeasures
Kyiv is maintaining efforts to block Russia from exploiting similar satellite communication systems. Simultaneously, Ukraine remains grateful to its international allies for existing operational technologies that remain vital for defense capabilities.
