The rental tariff for power poles was reduced to one kopeck to cover 1043 villages
The state has introduced preferential conditions for infrastructure leasing for telecom operators, which will enable the connection of over a thousand settlements to high-speed internet. Providers will pay only one kopeck for access to power poles instead of the previous ten hryvnias. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.
The government’s decision aims to eliminate financial barriers that have hindered the development of telecommunication networks in remote areas of Ukraine for years. High rental costs for utility poles made internet connection in small villages economically unviable for businesses, often leading operators to bypass such locations.
Cost optimization for telecom operators
The new mechanism provides for a symbolic fee of 0.01 hryvnia for access to infrastructure. The funds saved as a result of this tariff policy can be redirected by providers towards purchasing technical equipment, upgrading communication nodes, and deploying xPON technology networks.
Preferential terms apply not only to direct infrastructure within settlements but also to transit cable lines from neighboring territories. According to the new rules, this tariff will be effective throughout the entire period of martial law and will continue for one year after its conclusion.
Socio-economic impact for communities
The implemented changes enable the connection of 1,043 settlements that currently lack fixed access to the world wide web. Residents of these areas will be able to fully utilize electronic state services, banking tools, and distance education.
Stable internet coverage will promote the digitalization of regions and bridge the technology gap between cities and remote villages. This will allow providers to plan long-term infrastructure investments with clear and transparent market rules.
