Most violations of weight and dimension limits were recorded in Vinnytsia, Kyiv, and Poltava regions
Thanks to the operation of Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) stations, 11,452,402 UAH in fines was paid into the state budget during September. The system recorded violations that resulted in the issuance of 732 administrative penalty resolutions. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the State Agency for Restoration.
The State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine continues to maintain the WIM network, which allows for monitoring the dimensions and weight of heavy vehicles without stopping them. Automated data collection is performed via sensors embedded in the road surface that read axle loads and total vehicle weight while in motion.
Geography of violations
Additionally, specialized cameras track vehicle speed and recognize license plates. Once processed, the data is transmitted to Ukrtransbezpeka, which generates the corresponding administrative penalty resolutions regarding road safety and automotive transport regulations.
Three regions led in the number of weight and dimension limit violations recorded in September. Specifically, 194 violations were detected in Vinnytsia region, 143 in Kyiv region, and 116 in Poltava region.
Infrastructure protection mechanism
The primary goal of implementing WIM systems is to preserve road infrastructure from destruction caused by overloaded trucks. This helps mitigate losses to the state budget associated with the urgent need for road surface repairs.
The State Agency for Restoration emphasizes the necessity for drivers and freight carriers to conscientiously comply with established restrictions. Following cargo transportation rules is a shared responsibility of road users to ensure the safety and condition of Ukrainian roads.
