This is the first new road crossing in Zakarpattia in the last two decades
A new border crossing point, Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmatiei, has started operations on the Ukraine-Romania border. The facility is the third road crossing point for the Zakarpattia region. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Mykola Kalashnyk.
The launch of this facility represents the first stage of an infrastructure project aimed at relieving existing transport corridors and developing cross-border connectivity. To support operations, access roads were built on the Ukrainian side, and modular facilities for customs and border control procedures were installed.
Throughput capacity
At the current stage, the facility is operating on temporary infrastructure, allowing for the processing of up to 400 passenger cars per day. The Romanian partners have completed construction of the border crossing point and a new bridge across the Tisa River.
Future development prospects
Plans are in place to build a full-scale complex capable of handling freight trucks and bus traffic in the future. Once the full project is completed, the crossing point will be able to process an additional 360 trucks and 50 buses per day.
