The 50% corporate income tax rate for banks is proposed to be extended through 2027

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved in the first reading a draft law aimed at maintaining higher taxation on the profits of banking institutions. The document proposes extending the 50% corporate income tax rate for the financial sector through 2027. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Verkhovna Rada.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved in the first reading the Draft Law on Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine regarding the specifics of taxing bank profits (registration No. 15262 dated May 20, 2026). The legislative initiative was introduced by Member of Parliament Danylo Hetmantsev and his parliamentary colleagues.

The proposed changes provide for the continued application of an increased 50% corporate income tax rate for banking institutions in 2027. Furthermore, the document establishes a ban on reducing the financial result before taxation by the amount of losses incurred by banks in previous periods.
