War&Sanctions: HUR discloses data on foreign technological equipment used by Russian ballistic missile manufacturers

The list features three dozen machine tools and measuring systems from various countries

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine has published data on three dozen units of foreign technological equipment used at enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex via the War&Sanctions portal. In particular, the report concerns machinery applied to manufacture ballistic missiles and components for them. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

The defence sector of the aggressor state maintains a critical dependency on foreign technologies due to the inability to fully replace industrial machinery from global manufacturers with domestic developments. The new database features 30 items of equipment of Chinese, German, Taiwanese, American, Turkish, Swiss, and Italian origin.

These units are operated at plants producing ballistic missiles and component parts, including radio altimeters, aerodynamic control surfaces, and gyroscopes. A characteristic feature of the update is the growing number of Chinese machine tools and machining centers, including five-axis models.

Foreign components in Chinese machine tools

Machinery manufactured in China incorporates components of European, Japanese, and Taiwanese origin, such as CNC systems, servo drives, high-precision spindles, bearings, and measuring systems.

The published list includes the GX-650 five-axis universal machining center produced by Hyper Machine Tool from China. This equipment is utilized by the Votkinsk Plant to manufacture 9M723 missiles for the Iskander-M system and components of the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile.

Equipment at Russian military-industrial enterprises

The database also records Shtral turning and milling machining centers of Chinese origin involved in the production processes of PEMZ Molot JSC, which manufactures electronic equipment blocks for Iskander-M missiles.

Furthermore, intelligence released data on measuring equipment from the German manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz installed at SIC DB Detal, which produces altimeters for Zircon missiles.

Necessary measures to restrict supplies

To curtail the aggressor’s capacity to continue the war, Ukrainian intelligence emphasizes the need to strengthen control over the end consumer and the actual location of use. Specifically, authorities propose introducing on-site inspections by authorized representatives at registered installation addresses.

In addition, experts urge expanding rigorous control procedures to spare parts, components, technical fluids, consumables, software, updates, and maintenance services required to operate the equipment. It is necessary to regularly audit distributors and other intermediaries, particularly those supplying high-risk jurisdictions.
