Ministry of Infrastructure and Mastercard discuss digitization of transport payments

The ministry aims to automate passenger flow accounting through the implementation of cashless payments

Representatives of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine held a meeting with a delegation from Mastercard. The parties discussed the digitalization of passenger transportation, the development of the Transport Data Hub platform, and the implementation of cashless payments. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, based on data from Mastercard.

Government officials and the management of the payment system focused on implementing cutting-edge technologies to improve the quality of transport services. The key objective is to transition to automated accounting systems, which will minimize the share of informal cash transactions and ensure better control over passenger flows.

Transport data and digital tools

The development of the specialized Transport Data Hub platform is one of the ministry’s main tasks. This digital space is designed for the accumulation and comprehensive analysis of information, which is necessary for making strategic management decisions and effectively planning route networks based on real demand metrics.

As emphasized by the First Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Serhii Derkach, obtaining objective data on transportation will allow for better organization of the industry’s work. The ministry aims to make the state’s transport system more transparent and focused on the needs of passengers.

Transparency of transport payments

An important aspect of the dialogue was the implementation of modern cashless payment solutions in public transport. According to the ministry, abandoning cash will not only simplify the payment process for citizens but will also create equal competitive conditions for carriers.

“Digitalization of payments is not just a matter of convenience. It is an opportunity to ensure transparent accounting of transportation, reduce the share of shadow payments, and create equal conditions for businesses,” stated Serhii Derkach. In the future, the parties plan to continue discussing potential joint projects as part of the digital transformation of the transport sector.
