The agreement provides for the attraction of American technology and investment to the sector
NAK Naftogaz of Ukraine and the U.S. Department of State signed a memorandum on expanding partnership on October 26. The document aims to increase energy resource production and attract private American capital to Ukraine's energy sector. This was reported by Delo.ua citing U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The concluded agreement aims to create favorable conditions for U.S. companies to enter the Ukrainian oil and gas market. Key areas of cooperation include increasing production performance, improving the overall efficiency of the industry, and implementing modern technological solutions.
Cooperation for energy security
The U.S. diplomatic mission emphasized that the stability of the energy sector is an essential component of Ukraine’s national security. Washington supports Kyiv’s efforts toward energy self-sufficiency and is prepared to facilitate the engagement of technical capabilities and financial resources from the American private sector.
At this stage, the parties are not disclosing details of specific investment programs, the size of financial injections, or timelines for project implementation. The memorandum reinforces a long-term commitment to deepening the energy partnership between the two nations.
History of partnership relations
The current arrangement complements previous steps by Naftogaz toward collaborating with American business circles. Specifically, back in June, the sides discussed engaging U.S. companies in infrastructure modernization, equipment procurement, and the restoration of energy facilities with the participation of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
It is worth noting that in July, Naftogaz signed an agreement with the American company Argent LNG regarding the supply of liquefied natural gas. As part of this contract, the use of Ukrainian gas storage facilities for subsequent export to European markets is planned.
