The court sentenced the saboteurs under Articles 28 and 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine
Two agents of Russian intelligence services received 15 years in prison with asset confiscation for committing sabotage on the Odesa railway in February 2025. The convicts were tasked with destroying signaling equipment to disrupt freight logistics toward the seaport. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from Security Service of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers detained both perpetrators at the scene immediately after they set fire to a relay cabinet on a railway line leading to port infrastructure. The investigation established that the key operative was a resident of Odesa previously convicted of fraud, robbery, and theft. Russian intelligence services located him through thematic chats in messengers where he was looking for illegal sources of quick earnings.
Recruitment of Accomplices and Preparation for the Crime
In exchange for financial remuneration, handlers instructed the recidivist to destroy a railway infrastructure facility belonging to the local branch of Ukrzaliznytsia. He involved his unemployed female acquaintance in the execution of the criminal plan. The accomplices purchased an incendiary mixture in advance and arrived at the target at six o’clock in the morning to commit the arson.
Seizure of Evidence and Court Verdict
The primary objective of the enemy was to disrupt the uninterrupted supply of goods toward the seaport. During searches at the suspect’s residence, investigators seized several mobile devices containing materials confirming ties to representatives of the aggressor state. Based on the gathered evidence, the court found both individuals guilty of committing sabotage by prior conspiracy of a group of persons under martial law.
