Massive accident at TPP-2 reported in Kaliningrad region of russia

Power outages affected Kaliningrad and several cities in the region

A massive power outage occurred in the Kaliningrad region during the night of October 31, 2026. The incident was caused by a technical failure at TPP-2, which triggered automatic protection systems. This was reported by Novaya Gazeta Europe citing Kaliningrad.Ru, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Power supply disruptions were recorded around midnight. In addition to the regional capital, Guryevsk, Svetlogorsk, Pionersky, Yantarny, Gvardeysk, Bagrationovsk, and other settlements were left without electricity. Residents also reported difficulties accessing mobile internet services.

Details of the power grid failure

According to the governor’s spokesperson, an emergency response automation system was activated at TPP-2, resulting in the shutdown of some equipment. The company Rosseti Yantar emphasized that there were no technological violations recorded at their own grid infrastructure facilities.

To stabilize the situation, energy workers redistributed the load to other generation facilities in the region. Starting at 00:20, street lighting in Kaliningrad began to be restored gradually.

Power grid operators planned to reconnect all consumers within an hour of the incident. The exact number of facilities affected by the blackout has not been disclosed by the authorities so far.
