Russia spends hundreds of millions of dollars on massive strikes against Ukraine using missiles and drones. At the same time, the cost of repelling these attacks is also very high, given the air defense systems currently in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And when it comes, for example, to destroying “Shahed” drones, Ukraine’s financial losses exceed Russia’s costs of launching them. How much missiles for the air defense systems protecting Ukraine’s skies cost is reported by Slovo i Dilo, according to the Prompolitinform portal.
The most expensive air defense system in Ukraine’s arsenal is the American Patriot surface-to-air missile system. The cost of a full system can reach up to $1 billion, while a single missile costs about $3.7 million.
The first European long-range missile defense system, developed by France and Italy, SAMP/T, costs about $500 million per battery. One Aster-30 missile for the system costs around $2 million.
The AIM-9X air-to-air missile for the Norwegian medium-range NASAMS air defense system may cost about $1.1 million. The AMRAAM-120 air-to-air missile is slightly cheaper at around $900,000.
The German IRIS-T system costs approximately €140–180 million. One air-to-air missile for it costs about $900,000.
A missile for the French short-range Mistral air defense system costs approximately $500,000.
A missile for the portable Stinger air defense system costs over $480,000.
The American medium-range MIM-23 Hawk system costs about $30 million, while a missile for it costs around $250,000.
A missile for the short-range Shorad Aspide system costs over $100,000. The cheapest are missiles for the American Vampire system, designed to combat drones, costing about $30,000.
