First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy Denis Shmyhal denied the government’s intention to increase the electricity tariff for the population from May 1.

Shmyhal said this during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, said the first deputy of its chairman, MP Alexei Kucherenko (Fatherland), informs the portal PromPolitInform.

“We do not plan to raise prices for the population in May. Period!,” the deputy quoted Shmyhal’s statement.

As previously reported, the National Bank of Ukraine predicted an increase in electricity tariffs for the population after the end of the heating season due to increased needs for financing the restoration of the energy system after massive shelling.

The current electricity tariff for the population is valid from June 2024

Recall that the Cabinet of Ministers raised the electricity tariff for the population from June 1, 2024 immediately by 60% – up to 4.32 UAH per kWh, regardless of the volume of consumption.

The reduced tariff was left only for consumers who use electricity for heating in the winter season. It will be 2.64 UAH per kilowatt, subject to consumption of up to 2000 kWh per month.

Last fall, the Cabinet extended the current electricity tariffs for the population until April 30, 2026.
