Shmyhal: Due to new cold snap, government accelerates repairs to energy facilities

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine must expedite the restoration of energy infrastructure as quickly as possible, as a significant drop in temperatures is expected in the coming days. According to him, energy workers are working in an enhanced mode, but the scale of damage from the Russian attacks requires additional mobilization of resources, according to the First Business newspaper and the PromPolitInform portal.

Shmyhal emphasized that the government is coordinating with transmission and distribution system operators, as well as local authorities, to ensure priority restoration of critical facilities. Particular attention is being paid to regions experiencing the most severe damage and where cold snaps could pose additional risks to the population.

The prime minister emphasized that energy workers are working in difficult conditions, often under repeated shelling and with limited access to certain areas. Despite this, most emergency crews have already restored some equipment, and work continues around the clock. The government also urged citizens to use electricity efficiently during peak hours to reduce the load on the grid during freezing temperatures. Forecasters predict that temperatures in some regions could drop sharply, increasing consumption and complicating the balancing of the power grid.

As a reminder, Shmyhal assured that the state is doing everything possible to ensure a stable power supply to hospitals, water supply facilities, transportation, and other critical infrastructure.
