Pensions for working and military personnel will be revised – what you need to know

In Ukraine, starting April 1, 2026, working pensioners will face changes regarding the recalculation of payment amounts. Military personnel who returned to service after a well-deserved retirement will also receive increased pensions. This was reported by Novyny.LIVE, citing the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU). PromPolitInform reports.

Pension changes for working pensioners in April

Legislative provisions stipulate that, starting April 1, the Pension Fund is obligated to recalculate pensions without additional requests from citizens under certain conditions. Specifically:

For individuals receiving an old-age pension;

For individuals with disabilities;

For individuals receiving a pension based on length of service.

However, the revision of payments based on length of service will only be carried out for those who have reached retirement age at the time of the recalculation. The Pension Fund of Ukraine notes that the recalculation of payments will only affect those individuals who continued working after the appointment/preliminary recalculation of their pensions, and two years have passed since then.

The approach stipulates that recalculations are possible every two years. To eliminate the need for citizens to personally apply, those with insurance experience and a salary were automatically selected, and the recalculation was carried out.

The revision will affect individuals who have worked for 24 months and are eligible for a pension recalculation based on both length of service and salary. Pension Fund specialists can choose the most optimal option for recalculating amounts:

either based on length of service and salary;

or solely based on insurance experience.

Revision of pensions for military personnel in the spring

Also, in April of this year, pensions for retirees of law enforcement agencies will be increased, taking into account the increased amounts, starting in the new year.

Payments will be made to service members of the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies in the amount of 50% of the increased pension. The calculation is as follows:

the pension amount the citizen received as of January 1 is determined;

the pension amount is determined based on a new certificate provided by the authorized body;

50% of the difference will be paid in addition to the pension payment amount as of January 1, 2026.

Nuances in pension payments after repeated discharge from service

As explained by the Pension Fund, a military service member’s repeated discharge from service requires a recalculation of pension payments, taking into account several factors. The following will be taken into account:

New length of service acquired by the military service member during their return service;

New salary for the last position held

Additional compensation of 30,000, 50,000, and 100,000 UAH will not be taken into account when revising the pension amount, nor will payments for health improvement or financial assistance for social and domestic issues be considered.

Therefore, repeated service does not entail a loss of benefits, nor does it entail an even larger pension in the event of discharge. We previously reported on which categories of citizens are eligible for an increased minimum pension. While the standard minimum pension is UAH 2,590, this group will be entitled to UAH 7,800.

It was also reported that not only a general 12% indexation of pensions for the elderly is expected in March, but also that certain categories of citizens will receive various additional payments and allowances.
