As of 2026, more than 75 thousand women are in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of which more than 55 thousand are servicemen, said Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
According to him, five Ukrainian women were awarded the highest state award – the title of Hero of Ukraine. Three of them were awarded this title posthumously.
Also, over 12 years of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, 1705 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were awarded with state awards.
Sirsky stressed that the number of women in the army continues to grow.
“Ukrainian women are warriors, commanders, doctors, signalmen, intelligence officers, volunteers, mothers and wives. They, side by side with men, defend the state, save lives, teach, treat, provide and support,” wrote the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oksana Grigorieva, gender adviser to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, previously reported that in recent years the proportion of women among officers has increased sharply. If two years ago, officers made up about 4% of all military personnel, now this figure has grown to 21%.
For comparison, as of January 1, 2025, more than 70 thousand women served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine – this is about 20% more than in 2022.
Meanwhile, the military called the Ukrainian manufacturers of women’s body armor and warned against health risks.
