Ukraine receives Phantom MK-1 humanoid robots for combat testing, media reports

Two Phantom MK-1 humanoid robot soldiers were delivered to Ukraine to assess their effectiveness in combat conditions. The developer, the American company Foundation AI, considers Ukraine a key testing ground for new military technologies. The robots are capable of performing tasks in various conditions. This is reported by Channel 24, Time writes. The PromPolitInform portal reports.

How can Ukraine use humanoid robots?

The American company Foundation AI has transferred two Phantom MK-1 humanoid robots to Ukraine to assess their capabilities in combat conditions.

According to the company’s co-founder Mike LeBlanc, Ukraine has actually become the world’s main testing ground for new types of weapons, including technologies created by Western defense startups. The company plans to gradually hone the robots’ capabilities and bring them to the forefront in the future.

Humanoid robots can be used for logistics, reconnaissance or work in places that are difficult for drones to reach, such as bunkers. In addition, thanks to a heat signal similar to a human, such robots can potentially mislead the enemy.

According to the developers, in the future the robot can use any weapon that a person is capable of using. Currently, the Phantom MK-1 robots are being tested at enterprises in various countries, and the company already has research contracts with the US Army, Navy and Air Force worth $ 24 million.

At the same time, the experts of the publication draw attention to a number of risks. In particular, humanoid robots remain expensive, heavy, require regular recharging and can lose balance or fail. The use of artificial intelligence raises certain concerns. Experts note that AI systems can make mistakes or demonstrate so-called “hallucinations”, which makes fully autonomous combat systems potentially dangerous.

What is known about other types of weapons that Ukraine can use in the war against Russia?

Reserve Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, instructor pilot and military expert Roman Svitan told Channel 24 that anti-aircraft guns, mobile groups and interceptor drones are used at the front to combat Russian drones. It is important that these measures are part of a multi-level air defense system that intercepts drones at different stages of flight.

Deputy Commander of the Air Force Pavlo Yelizarov said that Ukraine is developing its own analogue of the Iron Dome, which will be much larger and will consist of four components, including an anti-drone dome to protect against Shaheds. It should be noted that the Israeli Iron Dome system has over 90% target efficiency and consists of a radar, combat control and launchers with Tamir interceptors.
